Uniform Requirements

Our team are motivated to promote a supportive culture by role modelling our “Bee Code of Conduct” and implementing our positive rewards and peer support programs.  Another way we embrace our community is by wearing our JAKSA studio uniforms to all classes and performances.

Our team have found that our students gain a strong sense of belonging, a feeling of equality and this in turn helps to promote mutual growth.

All JAKSA Students are required to wear the signature JAKSA uniform of:

  • Black tights/leggings
  • JAKSA T-shirt
  • Appropriate black dance footwear
  • JAKSA hoodie

Some classes must also wear:

  • Junior and Intermediate Classical Ballet must wear pink classical ballet stockings, a black leotard with a pinch pleat/gathered front and pink classical ballet shoes, they must wear their JAKSA T-shirt & jumper over their classical ballet uniform to & from the studio.  Hair must be up in a ballet bun.
  • Ballet Bugs, Musical Munchkins and Pre JFH can wear their favourite tutu skirt as well as their JAKSA T-Shirt/Jumper and black jazz shoes.
  • Lil Steppers wear black tap shoes.
  • All Modern jazz students must wear a black split-sole jazz shoe

All JAKSA studio T-Shirts, Jumpers, Singlets and Dance shorts, can be purchased from JAKSA however brand new dance shoes have to be purchased from a dance shoe store such as Leslie’s shoes at Padstow or Bloch’s.  There are second hand uniforms and shoe’s available, sizing is dependent on stock availability.

  • Musical Munchkins and Lil’ Steppers (Jazz Funk Hip Hop)

    Classes for children aged 2 to 5 years.

    Through singing, dancing and drama, JAKSA’S Pre Class Programs focus on supporting the development of children’s:

    • Non-verbal communications skills
    • Children learn new words and begin to understand how words are formed
    • It boasts children language communication and literacy skills
    • Helps develop children’s social skills
    • Children learn about different beats and rhythms

    Musical Munchkins Program – Creative play supports children’s learning! Our tailored early childhood program combines singing, dancing and pre-drama, encouraging imagination, self-expression, language, communication and early math skills. Children learn new words, develop fine and gross motor skills and become confident learners.

    Lil’ Steppers (Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop) Program – is a combination class of jazz, funk and hip hop and focuses on enjoyment!  Our tailored program helps children to develop locomotor, non-locomotor skills and rhythm, understand timing and gives students a strong sense of accomplishment and well being.

  • Ballet Bugs and Tap Tots

    For ages 2 to 5 years.

    Research shows that exposure to music and movement can improve children’s memory, cognitive development, learning skills and expressive ability.  When children participate in activities in a group, they also develop and refine their social skills. Our JAKSA students learn to work as a team, they learn to share and they learn how to be creative in a group environment.

    Our Ballet Bugs Program, encourages self-expression, develops musicality, good posture and instills strong dance foundations.  Our JAKSA team continually monitors, supports and evaluates our little Ballerina’s development so they gain confidence and a strong sense of well-being.

    JAKSA’S Tap Tots Program  is tailored to explore rhythm, beats and musicality through expressive movement creating ‘sound’ with their body and feet and incorporates percussive instruments. Our lessons will delight your child as they explore the elements of tap dancing with a difference! (tap shoes are required).

  • Jazz

    For Junior (ages 6-10 years), Intermediate (ages 11 – 14 years) and Senior students (15 + years).

    JAKSA’S Jazz Program instills strong jazz technique and promotes musicality and self-expression.  Students are supported, monitored and individually evaluated to encourage growth mindset, confidence and a strong sense of well being.

    • Develop dance techniques and flexibility
    • Allow your child to explore their individuality through dance.
    • Give your child the opportunity to explore their dance capabilities and fulfill their potential

    For our Senior students, it is an exhilarating dance fusion class!  Students are challenged learning different dance genres every few weeks:

    • Commercial Jazz
    • Funk
    • Fosse
    • Bollywood
    • Modern Jazz

    You never know what style you’ll be working on but you will definitely excel in dance technique, musicality, flexibility and creative expression.  A creative class for the born entertainer.

  • Junior and Intermediate Classical Ballet

    For Junior (ages 6 – 10 years) and Intermediate (ages 11 – 14 years) students.

    Research shows that encouraging free movement and expression can give children space to develop self-awareness, learn non-verbal ways of communicating and to get to know themselves and their body. Children learn their range of motion, balance, muscle strength, coordination, and endurance.

    Our Ballet program focuses on the foundations for excellence:

    • Dance technique and posture,
    • Extension and flow of movement,
    • Performance opportunities to enhance their performance skills and expression!

    At JAKSA, we encourage our students to connect with the music and communicate through expression. This class compliments and strengthens all other forms of dance training.

  • Hip Hop

    For Juniors (ages 6 – 10 years), Intermediates (ages 11 – 14 years), Seniors (15+ years) and Open (18+)

    An exhilarating high energy, hip-hop class packed with sharp, sophisticated beats and dance movements choreographed to your favourite music!

    Promoting fitness, tricks, turns, strength, stamina and performance skills!

    • Recreation-based
    • Learn Hip-hop tricks and turns
    • Build strength and stamina
    • Enhance your expression and performance skills!

    Students are required to wear the signature JAKSA uniform, paired with Jazz boots, or black sneakers.

  • Percussive Tap Dance

    For Juniors (ages 6 – 10 years), Intermediates (ages 11 – 14 years), Seniors (15+ years) and Open (18+)

    Individuality is encouraged in our tap-based percussive dance classes, focusing on strong beats and syncopated rhythms.

    But our students don’t just use their feet!  Be creative with sounds, incorporating percussive instruments such as bin lids, clave’s and castonets as well as using hands, body and the floor! Incorporating CSTD Tapping techniques, our syncopated rhythmic classes enhance each students’ overall techniques and performance skills!  High energy.  Highly skilled.

  • Jazz Technique

    For Intermediates (ages 11 – 14 years), Seniors (15 + years) and Open (18+)

    This class is compulsory for all students attending Jazz classes as it’s an extension class.

    The foundation of this class is strength and technique while implementing further development in flexibility and targeting body conditioning. This innovative class is to extend the skills of our Jazz Dancers.  Turns, jumps, leaps, tricks and highly skilled combinations will improve the overall development of our students and also promote an overall sense of achievement and well being.

  • Creative Drama

    For Juniors (ages 6 – 10 years), Intermediates (11 – 14 years), and Seniors (15 + years)

    Creative Drama focuses on exploring and investigating their world.  Teachers encourage individuality and creative expression and guide students to refine their acting skills.

    Focus areas are:

    • Improvisation

    • Voice technique and projection

    • Character building

    • Script and story development

    • Staging and choreography

  • Melody and Movement - Group Singing

    For Juniors (ages 6 – 10 years), Intermediates (11 – 14 years), Seniors (15 + years) and Open (18+)!

    A creative group singing lesson focusing on developing confident singers.

    Students learn vocal techniques, develop melody lines and harmonies as well as implementing basic movement to create a performance piece.  Students also experience recording their vocals and the techniques involved in studio session singing.

    These students also benefit from many performance opportunities!

  • Private Singing

    Available for all ages.

    Tailored vocal programs are available for individuals who want to unleash their vocal potential and develop their singing.

    • Melodies, harmonies and vocal health

    • Microphone and performance techniques

    • Opportunity to experience the recording studio

  • Musical Theatre

    For Juniors (ages 6 – 10 years), Intermediates (ages 11 – 14 years), and Seniors (15 + years)

    Empowering the creative mind, Musical theatre is an extension class that compliments the creative drama class.

    Focus areas:

    • Costume, prop and set design

    • Performance skills

    • Sound and Lighting

    Students must attend a Creative Drama Class to be eligible to attend the Musical Theatre Class.

  • Lyrical

    For Senior (ages 15 + years) & Open (18+)

    JAKSA’S Lyrical dance program has strong foundations in classical ballet, with elements of contemporary combinations and focuses on developing:

    • Technique
    • Strength
    • Expression
    • Precision

    It’s a beautiful, expressive form of dance with fluency of movement and strength in execution.
