Our Classes

Students are required to wear the signature Jaksa uniform of:

  • Black tights/leggings
  • Jaksa t-shirt
  • Appropriate footwear
  • Jaksa hoodie

However, some classes have a more specific uniform:

  • Ballet dancers must wear pink ballet stockings and shoes with a black leotard
  • Pixies must wear camel-coloured jazz shoes
  • Junior jazz students must wear a black split-sole jazz shoe

All uniforms can be purchased from Jaksa.

  • Hip Hop Classes

    Jaksa’s Hip-Hop classes focus on high energy body movements with an eclectic street rhythm, footwork and great music.

    A great class for fitness, strength and stamina!

    Students are required to wear the signature Jaksa uniform to classes with Jazz boots or jazz sneakers.

  • CSTD Jazz

    Following the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance syllabus, CSTD Jazz is an all-ages class that focuses on developing the following:

    • Strong technique

    • Dance combinations

    • Rhythm

    • Flexibility

    • Musicality

    • Fitness

    All while having fun!

    Students work towards exams. The exams are not compulsory, but everyone is encouraged to participate.

  • Stretch, leaps and turns

    This class is compulsory for jazz dancers and highly recommended for all other dancers, as the syllabus requires dancers to show increased extension and flexibility in their technique. This class helps dancers reach their full potential.

  • Pixies

    Catering to children aged 2-4, Pixies is a combination class of:

    • Basic jazz movement

    • Musical instruments

    Pixies is a fun-filled half-hour class that also helps develops children’s:

    • Social skills

    • Motor skills

    • Confidence

    • Ability to take direction

  • Pre Ballet and Tap

    These classes cater for students under six years of age and follow a format similar to the Pixies Jazz class. Students learn ballet or tap technique while having fun!

  • CSTD Ballet

    CSTD Ballet follows the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance syllabus.

    Classical ballet provides the foundations for excellent:

    • Dance technique

    • Body placement

    • Extension and expression

    It compliments and strengthens all other forms of dance training, especially contemporary, or can be practiced in isolation.

    Students will develop ballet movements through grade work and work towards exams. The exams are not compulsory, but everyone is encouraged to participate.

  • CSTD Tap

    Following the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance syllabus, CSTD Tap focuses on developing:

    • Tapping technique

    • Rhythm

    • Set combinations

    Combining traditional and contemporary tap training theory, this class works towards exams. The exams are not compulsory, but everyone is encouraged to participate.

  • Contemporary

    Contemporary dance has strong foundations in classical ballet, with emphasis on:

    • Technique

    • Strength

    • Precision

    It’s an expressive form of dance with fluency of movement and strength in execution.

  • Drama

    Jaksa offers a well-rounded drama class that teaches:

    • Improvisation

    • Voice technique and projection

    • Character building

    • Script and story development

    • Staging and choreography

    Students put on an original pantomime during Term 3 and perform as part of the end of year concert extravaganza.

  • Musical Theatre

    Jaksa’s musical theatre class is an extension of the drama class, where students learn behind the scenes skills, including:

    • Costume and prop design

    • Stage settings

    • Sound

    • Music

    • Lighting

    Students must attend a Drama Class to be eligible to attend the Musical Theatre Class.

  • Acrobatics

    Acrobatics will help develop:

    • Strength

    • Flexibility

    • Athleticism

    Those wishing to be versatile performers should combine this with a dance class, although it can be practiced in isolation.

  • Private and Group Singing

    Both private and group classes teach vocal, microphone and performance technique.

    However, one-on-one lessons also focus individual attention on:

    • Melodies

    • Harmonies

    • Voice projection

    While group vocal classes incorporates some basic choreography.

    Students get to experience the recording studio and are given a number of performance opportunities to help build their confidence, cultivate their craft and showcase their talents.

  • Music

    Private lessons are available for those wishing to learn to play:

    • Piano

    • Guitar

  • Adults Singing Group

    A new class dedicated to adults wanting to join a singing group.
    A down to earth class incorporating all vocal techniques and focusing on FUN!
